  • Atlassian Marketplace Now Has Apps

dodany przez Krzysztof Skoropada Wrz 08, 2017 0 Bez kategorii

This week, Atlassian made a huge move to simplify the naming of products offered by vendors on its Marketplace.

Listings ranging from add-ons, extensions, and bots to P2 plugins, SaaS and IaaS integrations, or macros are all grouped under a single name now: apps.

Since the creation of the Atlassian Marketplace five years ago, we witnessed the explosion of products created by various vendors. During that time, Atlassian developed its solutions as well, adding support across different environments, launching new products, and acquiring new platforms. During these years, Marketplace vendors generated over $250 million of revenue.

Today, the Atlassian Marketplace offers over 3000 different products that help teams to make the most of JIRA.

Simplicity in communication is a value Atlassian cultivated since its inception.

No wonder that they found a simple term for making sense of this wide range of listings that share some defining characteristics – they’re all installed, downloaded, and integrated with Atlassian solutions by users.

I think introducing an umbrella term for all these different products is a smart move. The change will help us when talking about Marketplace products to end users and customers. Atlassian is rolling out this update first on the Marketplace and documentation pages. During the following year, Atlassian plans to update its products as well.

And vendors should do the same. At InTENSO, we’re planning to implement this change in the documentation and listings as soon as possible.

So what’s in store for the Atlassian Marketplace?

In the near future, Atlassian plans to offer apps built using cross-product APIs that won’t be tied to any Atlassian products. That’s a huge change.

The introduction of a wider category of apps also means that it will be possible in the future to publish power-ups and other products on the Marketplace.

Needless to say, all vendors should keep a close eye on Atlassian’s activity in this area. I’m pretty sure we’ll hear more about it during the upcoming Atlassian Summit in San Jose.
